Common Blue Morpho
The Blue Morpho is a neotropical butterfly found in Central and South America, including Cerrado which is a vast tropical savanna in Brazil.
Females perch on tree stumps but are found near the tree canopy’s when it’s time to lay eggs. Males tend to fly in open clearings or high in the canopy’s.
Both sexes feed on rotten fruit that has fallen on the ground.
They are not actually blue! Their wings contain no blue pigment, they produce an iridescent or structural colour. Microscopic, tree-like structures on their scales reflect light, creating a bright blue appearance through diffraction and interference, while absorbing other light wavelengths.
Featuring peacock feathers, dried flowers, blue opalite and black tourmaline.
All species are ethically sourced by trusted suppliers a with the appropriate permits.
