Atlas moths are one of the biggest moths in the world, with a wingspan of 9.8 inches! Females are slightly larger than males.
Adults do not have working mouths and only live a few days to a week or so. They live entirely on the fat reserves accumulated during the larval stage
Atlas moths are names after Atlas, the Titan of Greek mythology!
Females release pheromones through a glad on the end of their abdomen to attract males. Males can detect and hone in on these pheromonme’’ from several kilometers away. Using their chemoreceptors on their fluffy antennae!
