They are distributed throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
This species of butterfly shows polymorphism in wing appearance, with females coming in at least 14 varieties/morphs, this is limited to females. Some female forms mimic unpalatable butterflies, while others resemble males. Mimic females are less likely to be eaten by predators but may attract unwanted attention from males. Male-like females avoid this harassment but may be more vulnerable to predators.
